Class 3 – Caterpillars 2014-15

Caterpillars Class Blog 17.10.14

We have been looking closely at the ‘Owl Babies’ story. We have been able to make our own owl masks during our challenge time. We also acted out the story. Isla enjoyed playing Bill. We have now started to think about other nocturnal animals to write a story about next week.

When we have been thinking about nocturnal animals we looked at our eyes to see what happens to our pupils in the dark. We noticed they get bigger when it gets darker and smaller as it gets lighter.

We also used a story for our Maths this week. It was ‘The Great Pet Sale’ by Mick Inkpen. In the story a little boy goes to buy a pet from the pet shop and realises he has enough money,£1, to buy all the animals. If Ralph had some money he said he would have bought the tortoise and Abi would have liked the rat. We used the book to find pairs of animals that equalled 10p and different ways of making totals to buy the different animals.

At the beginning of the week Animal Experience came to visit us and show us some exotic pets. Misha liked the tarantula best. George liked the bearded dragon. Max was really proud of himself for holding the tarantula and even Mrs Burt and Miss Claxton held a rather long and heavy snake!

On Thursday we all went to Sandringham for a ‘Welly Walk’. Luckily the weather was kind to us and we all had lots of fun! William enjoyed looking out of the bird hide to see if he could see crocodiles or frogs. Poppy had fun jumping in puddles and Louie saw a grey squirrel running away – maybe the noise was too much for it!!

It really has been a busy week this week and we are just about ready for our holiday. Only 3 more days to go but don’t forget to come and join in with our Reading Café next Tuesday at 2pm. Looking forward to seeing you there.
