Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog 9.10.17

We have been learning about shapes (Scott).

We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes (Charlie and Elijah).

We watched a shape video and found out about shapes (Farrah).

We went on a shape hunt (Ozzy).

Today we watched a show called ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ (Charlie-Roy).

We tested out our rafts for the Billy Goats. Some were successful and floated (Hope G).

We went on an Autumn hunt to l’’;ook for signs of Autumn! (Elsie-May).


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog 26.6.17

This week we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have been naming the shapes and describing their different properties. We have used the language: sides, corners, flat, solid, edges, faces, vertices.

In Literacy we have been exploring descriptive language and have been describing volcanoes. We have been focusing on how to develop our ideas. For example ‘hot’ became ‘hot burning lava flooding violently’.

In topic we have explored the questions: ‘What was the Earth like millions of years ago when Dinosaurs lived here?’ and ‘How did the dinosaurs become extinct?’


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 19.6.17

This week in Literacy we have been learning about letters. We read the book ‘Dear Dinosaur’ and we have written letters to our new Year 2 teachers. (Lucie)

We have created a piece of dinosaur artwork by painting the background and cutting out dinosaur silhouettes. (Christopher and Riley)

On Tuesday we visited our new teachers. We are all going to be in Otters Class next year! (Harry)

We completed a Maths quiz this week and we are all really clever!! (Finley)

Today we made dinosaur skeletons using art straws and small pieces of white paper. We measured how long we wanted each part to be using a ruler. (Amelia)


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 12.6.17

This week in Maths we have been learning about measuring.

We have measured dinosaur footprints using rulers and metre sticks (Christopher). The T-Rex had the biggest footprint and it measured about 87cm long (everyone!) We also used our own footprint to measure and compare (Riley).

We have been doing Science this week! We have learnt about living things and non- living things (Finley). We have grouped animals using the groups: fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and insects (Thomas).

In Literacy we have been writing statement sentences and question sentences (Amelia).

We have started practicing for Sports Day.


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 4.6.17

This week we started our new topic ‘Dinosaurs’ (Harry).

We have been thinking about how we would get ready for a Dino Hunt! We made maps (Riley) and binoculars and telescopes (Sid).

We drew and coloured our own dinosaurs (Albie).

All week we have been making leaves, flowers and vines to decorate the Year 1 corridor (Everyone!)

We invented our own dinosaurs with unique names and we wrote descriptive sentences about them (Mrs Rippon).


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 22.5.17

This week we have been looking for collaborative learners (Finley). Ben C, Ava and Lexi were collaborative this week working together to read and sing rhymes, recognising high frequency words (Mrs Chimes).

In Literacy we used our plans and wrote our own stories, based on The Little Red Hen and Mr Wolf’s Pancake (Kara-Mae).

A puppet theatre company came to our school on Thursday and we watched a puppet show called ‘Little Red Robin Hood’ (Christopher and everyone!).

We have finished our topic ‘Food Glorious Food’, and we have talked about what we have learnt (Harry).

Today we practiced our handwriting and we joined our letters – sl, st, ck (Riley).

 

 

 

 


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 15.5.17

Esme has been Hedgehogs Child of the Week this week and she has chosen pink for the blog!

In Maths we used blank number lines and we used different number sentences. Some were adding and some taking away. We had to draw our own jumps to find the answers (Sophia).

On Monday we tasted different breads from around the world and then we made some bread (Christopher and Sid).

We have started to plan our own stories. We have used the books ‘The Little Red Hen’ and ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’ to help us (Amelia and Mehdi). We have drawn pictures to plan out our stories and added useful words (Amber).

Next week we are having a visit from a Dental Nurse. In preparation, this week we looked in mirrors and we drew our faces with our teeth! (Mrs Chimes, Harry, Finley). We labelled our teeth (Alyssa).

Today we have practiced handwriting (Thomas). We joined ‘ill’, ‘till’, ‘mill’, ‘all’ and ‘fall’ (everybody!).

 


Hedgehogs Class Weekly Blog wb 8.5.17

This week we have been learning about the story The Little Red Hen (Charlie H). We have used actions to tell it (Esme).

We retold the story using a storyline (Kara-Mae). We drew the pictures to help us (Harry).

We wrote letters to the different characters in The Little Red Hen (Thomas).

In Maths we have been completing number sentences (Adam).

We used number squares to help us (Finley).

We did addition and subtraction number sentences (Lucie).

We learnt the song ‘Food, Glorious, Food’ from Oliver (Amber).

Today we have practiced the joins ‘sh’, ‘ch’ and ‘th’ in handwriting.
