Class 4 – Crickets 2014-15

Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 10.7.15

This week we have been learning about seaside holidays in the past. We have found out some facts and recorded them using a bullet point list.

We have started to watch Magic Grandad and so far we have found out about hokey pokey, bathing machines, penny slots, donkey rides and Punch and Judy.

In Maths we have created Super Cone ice-creams and worked out how much they cost. Yum yum!

We have been practising The Yellow Submarine and Commotion in the Ocean ready for the Summer Fair tonight!


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 22.6.15

This week we have been practising for Sports Day. Sports Day is next Friday afternoon.

We have been thinking about beaches and which features are man-made and natural. Bays and sand dunes are natural features. The pier and the fairground are man-made.

In Maths we have been using money and giving change.

In Literacy we have looked at the book ‘Flotsam’ by David Weisner. It is a book without words. We have written thought bubbles for some of the different characters.


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 15.6.15

This week we met Barnaby Bear. He only visited us for one day because then he travelled to Australia to see the Coral Reef. Lots of different sea creatures live in the Coral Reef, like lion fish, sea cucumbers, sea snails and reef sharks.

In literacy we have been writing about Barnaby Bear and his trip to Australia.

In maths we have completed a dice challenge. We used two dice and had to find all the different combinations of number sentences possible.

In Outdoor learning we have been improving our bug hotel. We have been adding wooden pallets to make it stronger.


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 8.6.15

This week we have been learning about the Norfolk Coast. We have labelled different places along the Norfolk Coastline.

We have been thinking about what creatures live in the sea and in rock pools. We made our own mini dictionaries and wrote sea words onto the correct page. We have also written definitions for some of the words.

In Maths we have been counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 and solving problems.

Next week we are going to be travelling to Australia and finding out about the Coral Reef.

Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 1.6.15

Our new topic for this half term is ‘The Sea’.

On Monday, to introduce the topic, we completed lots of different activities all to do with water. We all liked making the bubble pictures!

In Literacy this week we have been finding out about water. We have listened to water sounds and we have written our own water poems.

In Maths we have been finding half and a quarter of different numbers. Some of us have even solved worded problems involving half and quarters.

In outdoor learning on Thursday we walked to the duck pond and we listened carefully to the sounds that the water made.

We have had a great week!


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 18.5.15

Today we have had a special Carnival day! We have made colourful hats, masks and instruments. We have also learnt a Samba dance. Apparently Mrs Burt’s dance moves were epic!!

We have tasted different rainforest fruits and we voted for our favourite fruit using a tally chart. We then created our own bar graphs. In Maths we have also been solving missing number problems.

We have found out about people that live in the Amazon Rainforest and the different things that they do and make.


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 11.5.15

This week we have made our own non-fiction books all about Amazon Rainforest animals. We have given our books a front cover, a contents page and different pages of information. Some of us have included a blurb, a glossary and an index.

In Maths we have been solving missing number problems. These were very tricky! We have also completed a little maths quiz.

In outdoor learning we pretending to be leaf cutter ants and we worked as part of a team to build an obstacle course for the other ‘ants’ to complete. It was great fun!

We shared our non-fiction books with Buttefly Class.


Crickets Class Weekly Blog wc. 4.5.15

This week we have been learning about the Amazon Rainforest. We have been finding out about all the different animals that live there and we have looked at the different layers of a rainforest.

Miss Hayes and Mrs Burt made a rainforest tree using fabric and we labelled the different layers and decided where the animals would live.

In Maths this week we have been looking closely at numbers and ordering numbers. We have also been solving subtraction number sentences.

We have found out some really ‘fascinating’ facts about rainforest animals. Did you know that a sloth is so slow that it only goes down to the bottom of the tree once a week to go to the toilet!!
