Otters Class Blog – 27.9.19

In English we have been reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have done lots of work around the story.  We drew a map of her walk through the woods, we described the wolf and thought of lots of amazing adjectives.

In topic we have been learning all about Florence Nightingale.  She lived from 1820 to 1910 and came from a wealthy family.  She had to attend lots of parties, but all she really wanted to do was make people better and be a nurse.  To start with her parents did not want her to be a nurse, but after she had nursed members of her own family, they supported her choice.

In PHSE we talked about belonging and thought about how it feels to be left out.  We thought of ways to include everyone and to make sure that everyone has a turn.

For maths this week we have been subtracting using different strategies.  We have learnt how to use a blank number line.  To take away we have to jump backwards to make sure we are counting down.

Today we went swimming and we were learning how to swimming on our backs and some of us were using ‘sinkers’ which we had to either catch in the water or fetch from the bottom of the pool.
