Class 6 – Butterflies 2015-16

Butterfly Class 5.6.15

On Monday we had our Stunning Start to our new topic, A Bug’s Life’.  We had a visit from some animals and we watched the man feed the bearded dragon with live maggots!!  The children got a close look and even got to hold some of them!

We used the book ‘Mad About Minibeasts’ in literacy to write poems and also to use expanded noun phrases to write about the insects.  In science we explored the school grounds in the lovely sunny weather,  looking for minibeasts and all sorts of different objects.  We sorted the minibeasts into different types, such as arachnids, insects, crustaceans, etc and also sorted items into living, non-living, and never lived.

In maths we have been looking at number sequences and using 100 squares and number lines to find missing numbers, using the clues provided.  We have also been finding different ways to make 2 and 3 digit numbers by partitioning.

Eg 63 = 60 + 3,    50 + 13,   40 + 20 + 3

In art this week we have been creating our minibeast habitat by making flowers and leaves and creating our own minibeast, using different materials and techniques. You may have noticed a lot of these starting to appear in the corridor.
