Caterpillar’s Class Blog 12.2.16
We had a ‘fabulous finish’ to our Space topic this week when the Starlinks Mobile Planetarium came to visit us.
We all thought it was a lot of fun and Mrs Burt was really impressed that we knew all the answers to the questions.
Chester – “It was pitch black in there.”
Arabella – “It felt like it was moving.”
Lyla – “I saw the stars swirling.”
Millie – “I cuddled up to my partner.”
Nell – “It felt a bit scary because I couldn’t see anyone.”
Caleb – “We saw Uranus.”
Olivia – “We saw Jupiter in the sky when we looked at the stars.”
We have had lots of celebrations this week as we have seen Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey. We could make Chinese Dragons on the creative table if we wanted to. The next day was Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day. We talked about the different toppings we liked to have on our pancakes and could make our own playdoh pancakes.
Also this week we learnt about different word groups with Mrs Reale – nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
A noun is a thing, person or place.
An adjective is a word we use to describe a noun.
A verb is an action.
An adverb is a word used to modify/describe the action.
Can you spot the 4 word types in some of our Space poems?

We are beginning to use standard units when measuring now so we now know that a ruler is 30cm long. We investigated objects around the classroom that were longer/taller or shorter than our ruler.
When measuring the telescope Casey noticed that it was longer than the ruler. However, she also noticed that when the lens was pushed in, the telescope became shorter than her ruler. Great observations Casey!
We are all looking forward to a nice rest next week but have already begun to guess our new topic for after half term. We know it has something to do with travelling as Mrs Burt has asked us all to fill in a Passport this afternoon. We will keep you updated as soon as we get back.
Happy Half Term.
