Class 1 – Dragonflies 2015-16

Dragonflies’ Class Blog Week ending 22nd January 2016

What a fantastic week! We have begun using information books to find out facts about space, and have even looked at some space poems too!

This week we have been thinking about the story ‘How to catch a star’. We loved the story and have decided we would all like a star of our very own!

We have made galaxy wish jars this week, and written our very own wishes too. We loved exploring different ways to add things together to create new effects. Isobel wished for a unicorn, Halle wished for a new baby sister, and Lenny wished for his dog to come back.

Pixie loved the challenges this week, and was one of many children who did the ‘catch a star’ problem solving challenge. “I jumped to catch the stars!” she told us, while Albie “used the blocks to get higher”. Harry C decided to use logs to try and catch the stars “they would be dangerous if they went too high” he told us, thinking about how to stay safe.

Lots of children completed the rocket number challenge this week too. The children chose to work in teams, working together to order their numbers to 15 and then practising counting forwards and backwards. “you had to think what number comes after” Rhyley told us.

Lenny, Pixie, and Alfie all went on GOLD this week! Together, they engaged in the cutting and decorating shooting star activity for over 2 hours! Carefully colouring patterns and cutting the shapes they all created outstanding pieces of work.

Alfie has shown us a hilarious looking story called ‘Aliens love underpants’. We have decided that we will think about that story next week, and put pants everywhere!

Miss Riddington is super proud of how we ended the week with ALL of our class on DOUBLE silver! WOW! We look forward to another busy week next week.
