Class 3 – Caterpillars 2014-15

Caterpillars Weekly Blog 28.11.14

Following our visit from the Fire Service last week we have been comparing the fire service today and in 1666 during the Great Fire of London. We know they wouldn’t have had a fire engine to pump water to the houses like we do today. Instead they had to pull some of the houses down to make a ‘fire break’.

We have been thinking about instruction writing in Literacy this week and focussing on imperative verbs. ‘These are the bossy words that tell us what to do,’ said Oscar J. We went outside and followed instructions to make mud pies and mud sandwiches. Yummy!!

We also had a Maths café this week. It was based on the book ‘How to Catch a Star’ by Oliver Jeffers.

We all drew a six pointed star and wrote numbers on each point. We used these numbers to help us write addition and subtraction number sentences. It was great fun because lots of our mummies, daddies and grandmas came to help us. Ralph said his favourite part was ‘eating the biscuits’.

It is a little bit early but we have started to think about Christmas. A big thank you to Louie, Will, Ethan, Kara and Florence’s mummies who came in to help us decorate our crafts ready for the Christmas Fayre next Friday, 5th December 2014. We are all looking forward to buying our craft and taking part in all the fun activities.
