Class 3 – Caterpillars 2014-15

Caterpillars Blog 10.10.14

This week we have been thinking about Harvest and have been learning a poem called ‘Farmer, Farmer’ to recite in church. We have put actions to it so it is easier to remember. Lots of us have brought packets of food and tins to take to church. These will then be donated to the local food bank.

As well as Harvest Festival for Christians we have also been thinking about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. During this festival Jewish people construct a temporary hut topped with branches and often decorate it with autumnal, harvest or Judaic themes. This is called a ‘Sukkah’. It is common for Jews to eat, sleep and otherwise spend time in the sukkah. During our outside learning we made a sukkah in the forest area and had our snack in it. Unfortunately it was a bit wet earlier in the week so as you can see we had to wear our wet weather gear for the first time. We still had lots of fun though!!!

In Maths we have been looking at coins. Being able to identify them and adding them together. We have used cubes to help us with the values. Here we are investigating different ways of making 9p.

We have been making Autumn falling leaves pictures and looking closely at signs of Autumn with the things we brought into school. Lilly particularly enjoyed leaf printing, Florence collected some very large pine cones and lots of us collected conkers.

Next week we are looking forward to finding lots more signs of Autumn when we go on a Welly Walk at Sandringham.

Finally, this week Caterpillars had their first GOLD of the year!! A big well done to Lola who achieved Gold for the fantastic writing she has been doing over the last few weeks, especially during her own time in class. Well done Lola. Keep up the good work.
